It is essential to recognize that food allergies differ from intolerance to certain trigger foods or sensitivities.
Food Allergies: This possible life-threatening reaction occurs when the human body immune system over responds to proteins found in certain foods. Allergic responses may manifest as dermal (skin) irritation, urticaria, rashes, pruritus- itching, edema- swelling, and often experience serious reactions anaphylaxis.
Food Hypersensitivity: Occurs when the body is unable to adequately metabolize a specific meal or component, potentially resulting in gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, indigestion, gas, and may experience symptoms of bloating. Certain intolerances may induce symptoms resembling those of a viral-cold.
Food Sensitivities: Often conflated with intolerances, sensitivities arise from a dysfunctional balance of bacteria in the digestive tract. Symptoms may encompass gastrointestinal disturbances, weariness, musculoskeletal pain, headaches, and cognitive impairment individuals refer to as brain-fog.
